Week of February 23rd - 27th
Math:
In Math, students worked on an engaging “Yes Day” project that combined real-world budgeting with key number concepts. They first completed a teacher-created Yes Day plan, calculating total costs using addition, multiplication, and division with decimals to determine the cost per person and overall cost. Students then applied their learning by designing their own Yes Day using the same budgeting template. As part of the project, they also practiced finding factors and greatest common factors to simplify fractions. This activity helped strengthen their understanding of decimal operations and number relationships in a meaningful, applied context.
Science:
In Science, students began working on a “Who Would Win Against Climate Change?” project. Using the research and knowledge they have developed throughout the unit, students selected a city to study in greater detail. They are creating an informational book that highlights their city’s climate challenges, environmental initiatives, and actions being taken to reduce the impacts of climate change. At the end of the project, students will compare their city with a partner’s city in a friendly “battle,” evaluating which community is doing the most to combat climate change. Students are encouraged to use critical thinking, research skills, and real-world connections to global environmental issues.
