As we enter the final stretch of the school year at Dr. Martha Cohen School, our Grade 6–9 students are preparing for year-end exams, final projects, and other demonstrations of learning. This can be a busy and sometimes stressful time, but it is also an important opportunity to reflect on growth, build confidence, and finish the year with purpose.

To support student success, we encourage a balanced approach—one that includes effective study habits, awareness of academic progress, and attention to personal well-being.

Staying Informed About Learning Progress

An important step in preparing for year-end assessments is knowing where you currently stand academically. Students and families are encouraged to regularly check PowerSchool to review current marks, comments, and missing or outstanding work. Being informed allows students to set priorities, ask questions, and focus their efforts where they are needed most.

For parents and caregivers, please know that reaching out to teachers for clarification or additional information about your child’s progress is always welcome. Open communication between home and school is a key part of supporting student learning, and our staff are happy to work with families to ensure students feel supported and confident moving forward.

Helpful Study Tips

  • Plan ahead: Break studying and project work into smaller, manageable steps using a calendar or checklist.
  • Create a routine: Set aside regular, distraction-free study times that work best for you.
  • Ask for help early: Teachers are available to support you—don’t wait if something is unclear.
  • Study smart: Short, focused study sessions with breaks are more effective than last-minute cramming.
  • Review actively: Summarize notes, practice questions, or explain concepts to someone else.

Balancing Wellness

Academic success is strongest when paired with good self-care:

  • Get enough sleep to support focus, memory, and emotional well-being.
  • Eat nutritious meals and stay hydrated to fuel your brain.
  • Stay active: Physical activity and fresh air reduce stress and improve concentration.
  • Take breaks: Time for relaxation, hobbies, and connection with others is essential, not optional.

Families play a vital role during this time by helping students maintain routines, encouraging healthy balance, and keeping perspective. Effort, progress, and learning skills matter just as much as final results.

Year-end assessments are one part of a much larger learning journey. We are proud of the growth our students continue to show and are confident they will finish the year strong.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
