Dear Families,
As we step into the vibrant energy of spring, we are reminded of the power of growth—not just in nature, but in our children, our school, and our community. This is the season where all of the hard work and learning done throughout the year begins to bloom, and we see students take meaningful steps toward becoming thoughtful, informed, and compassionate citizens.
At Dr. Martha Cohen School, we believe that education doesn’t end when the school bell rings. Some of the most important lessons are learned at home—around the dinner table, on a walk through the neighborhood, or during a conversation sparked by current events. As we look ahead to the final stretch of the school year, we invite families to join us in emphasizing a few key learnings that help make our school and our wider community stronger:
1. Kindness and Inclusion
Every day is a new opportunity to reinforce empathy, respect, and understanding. Whether it’s learning how to resolve conflict peacefully, include someone who feels left out, or speak up when something isn’t right—these lessons shape our students into the kind of people who make every space better.
2. Digital Citizenship
Our children are growing up in a world where their voices extend far beyond their classrooms. Please continue to have regular conversations about the impact of social media, respectful online behavior, and how to be a positive digital citizen—because how we act online is just as important as how we act in person.
3. Responsibility and Contribution
We are so proud when we see students take ownership of their actions and understand that they are part of something bigger. Encourage your child to lend a hand at home, take care of shared spaces, and think about how their choices—big and small—can make a difference.
4. Curiosity and Critical Thinking
The ability to ask questions, reflect, and seek out understanding is one of the greatest tools we can give our kids. Let’s foster environments at home that spark curiosity—about books, cultures, current events, and the issues facing our world. A well-rounded learner is one who’s encouraged to wonder out loud and learn continuously.
As always, we are grateful for your partnership. The home-school connection is essential, and together, we are helping our students not just succeed academically, but grow into kind, capable, and community-minded individuals.
Wishing you and your family a season of warmth, renewal, and meaningful conversations.
Warm regards,
Jason Hartl
