Our Programs
Regular Program at the CBE
Even though most of our schools offer a regular program, no two are quite the same. All schools teach according to Alberta Education’s mandated curriculum, however a school’s focus, optional courses and school activities are as unique as every school.
Homework
At Dr. Martha Cohen, we believe homework plays an essential role in reinforcing learning and building skills for academic success. Our homework policy is designed to support students' understanding of classroom material while promoting balanced personal and family time. Homework is not typically assigned by teachers; parents are encouraged to have their child do 15 – 30 minutes every night.
Purpose of Homework
The purpose of homework at our school is to:
- Review and reinforce material taught in class.
- Encourage reading for enjoyment and information.
- Practice foundational skills to build confidence and mastery.
Suggestions
- Homework should primarily focus on reviewing what has been taught in class that day/week.
- Reading is a vital part of homework, and students are encouraged to read daily to develop comprehension and a love for literature.
- Practice of basic skills, such as math facts or vocabulary.
Commitment to Balance
We value students' overall well-being and strive to maintain a balance between academic responsibilities and extracurricular activities. Homework should not overwhelm students but instead serve as a tool for reinforcing skills and fostering a love for learning.
For questions or additional information about the homework policy, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or the school office. Together, we can support every student’s academic journey!
